Dental implant; They are artificial tooth roots used in tooth loss due to trauma and tooth decay. Technological advances in recent years have made the treatment of most dental problems and diseases considerably easier. Dental implant applications have also become easier and the number of patients that can be applied has increased as much. So, is everyone a candidate for dental implants? Who is suitable for dental implants?
We can apply dental implants to anyone over the age of 18 with sufficient jawbone area. In addition, these people should not have any systemic disease.
Who is suitable for dental implants?
As Adalya Dental Clinic, we can easily say that anyone who has completed bone development (18 years old) and does not have a serious problem in general health is suitable for dental implants. But of course, there will be differences in dental implant application stages from person to person. We can call this personalized implant treatments.
Because, unfortunately, everyone’s jawbone, jaw structure, body resistance and body are not the same. For this reason, we examine the patients and tell our patients from the very beginning what kind of surgery and treatment planning will be.
We are in contact with the doctors of people with systemic diseases. It is possible to apply dental implants in these patients by minimizing the risk and following the dental treatment planning correctly.
Who is not suitable for dental implants?
Thanks to the latest technological developments in the field of health in the world, almost everyone can be applied dental implant treatment. However, there are some disadvantageous patient groups that it may not be sutiable for dental implants.
- Those who smoke too much.
- People with uncontrolled diabetes.
- Those who has blood clotting problems.
- Patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
- People with gum disease.
- Those who do not have enough jawbone to implant.
Those who smoke too much:
Patients who smoke too much are those whose implant surgery recovery period is prolonged. Because, in tissues that cannot receive enough oxygen, recovery will slow down and there will even be a risk of losing the implant.
We recommend that people who smoke too much should not smoke for at least 1 month after implant application.
People with uncontrolled diabetes:
We can apply dental implants to diabetics. However, we hesitate to apply dental implants to a person whose sugar is not under control, has very high sugar values and does not pay attention to it.
No matter how successful the implant application is made in such people, there may be a situation of losing the implant. If sugar levels are brought under control in such patients, we can easily perform implant application. We apply dental implants to diabetics with Hba1c test below 7 and sugar level between 120-180.
Patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy:
People who have undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy are in the objectionable group for dental implants. However, we also apply dental implants to these people, if they are approved by their doctors. The important thing here is to have doctor’s approval.
People with gum disease:
Anyone who has good enough oral and general health is a good candidate for dental implants. But beople with gum disease are not suitable for dental implants. Because the health of the tissues is extremely important for the healing process of the implant. Anyone who has been treated for gum disease problems is suitable for dental implants.
Those who don’t have enough jaw bone to implant:
If the patient does not have enough jawbone, we first complete the bone by applying bone grafting treatment. If the amount of this jaw bone is too small, we can transfer bone from another part of the jaw, for example from the 20-year-old tooth area, and then perform dental implants.
As a result, we can apply dental implants even to patients with good general health but with many diseases. The most important issue here is; the patient’s chronic disease is under control and the approval of the doctor dealing with this chronic disease.
As Adalya Dental Clinic, we apply dental implant treatments in consultation with the patient’s doctor and with the approval of the doctor.
